The biking adventure in the Andes is an experience that every cycling enthusiast should live at least once. In this article, we will take you through an exciting expedition to Rainbow Mountain and Red Valley, two of the most stunning destinations for cyclists in Peru. Prepare to enjoy single tracks, challenging downhill sections, breathtaking views, and the incredible landscapes that only the Andes can offer.
Our expedition begins in Red Valley, a picturesque location that looks like it’s straight out of a painting. This route, approximately 15 kilometers long, is perfect for both beginners and experienced
cyclists. Here, you will find a variety of terrains, from gentle ascents to thrilling descents. The single tracks in this area are ideal for enjoying mountain biking, featuring twists and turns that keep you engaged and excited.
As you pedal through Red Valley, you will witness the beauty of the landscape: colorful rock formations, expansive panoramic views, and unique flora that will leave you in awe. The tranquil atmosphere of Red Valley allows you to connect with nature, making it an ideal spot for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers.
After conquering Red Valley, we head towards Rainbow Mountain, also known as Vinicunca. This section presents a true challenge, especially due to the altitude that exceeds 5,000 meters above sea level. The route to Rainbow Mountain offers a combination of cross country, enduro, and downhill biking, making it perfect for cyclists looking to elevate their skills.
The ascent is demanding, but each pedal stroke is rewarded with spectacular views of the vibrant mountain colors. As you progress, the landscape evolves, and the natural beauty becomes even more striking. The effort required to reach the summit transforms into a unique experience, where the stunning scenery serves as the ultimate reward.
While Rainbow Mountain and Red Valley are breathtaking, no biking expedition in Peru is complete without considering Machu Picchu. Many biking tours offer packages that combine mountain biking with a trek to the ancient Inca citadel. You can explore scenic routes that lead towards the Sacred Valley, with breathtaking views of the Andean mountains and lush landscapes.
Riding towards Machu Picchu not only provides an adrenaline rush but also the opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich history and culture of the Inca civilization. The journey offers various paths that lead to the famous site, making it a truly unforgettable experience.
Before embarking on this thrilling adventure, proper preparation is crucial. Make sure you have a mountain bike designed for enduro and cross country biking that can handle the varied terrains you will encounter. Additionally, safety gear, including a helmet and pads, is essential for your protection.
Hydration and nutrition are key factors for fully enjoying the experience. Bring enough water and energy snacks to keep you energized and focused throughout the ride. Remember, acclimatization is vital at high altitudes to avoid altitude sickness, so take your time to adjust.
Throughout this expedition, we are not just conquering biking routes; we are also immersing ourselves in the natural beauty of the surroundings. Each stop offers a chance to appreciate the unique flora and fauna of the Andes, and every heartbeat becomes a celebration of the adventure experienced.
The biking expedition to Rainbow Mountain and Red Valley, with the option to explore routes leading to Machu Picchu, is more than just a bike ride; it is a transformative experience that challenges your limits and connects you with nature in a unique way. At the end of the day, you will return with unforgettable memories and a profound appreciation for the majesty of the Andes. So, get ready to explore, discover, and enjoy every moment in this magical corner of the world!

Beautiful environment. Americo takes you further into nature than any other guide ever would. The downhill character is of a high level, but everyone does this at their own pace. Highly recommended for real adventurers. Oliver P2023-08-31 Sacred valley black downhill mountain biking tour I did the sacred valley black downhill mountain biking tour. Americo was an awesome guide and we rode some amazing trails. I did fall once though and cut my arms quite badly. Americo brengt u naar plaatsen waar je de hele dag alleen rijdt en je voelt je in het paradijs. Ook is hij een topgids die veel geduld heeft en je veel assisteert. Een echte aanrader dus! Omri V2022-10-12 First Downhill in my life, could not have been better I went on single day Downhill tour, which apart from the astonishing and unique ride consisted of a great lunch and a visit to a Sauna. It was my first time going properly Downhill, after years of only trail riding, and I enjoyed every minute. Everything in the tour was well organized, no problems whatsoever, great Commencal bike and gear. This tour enabled me to start pushing my limits on a bike, because I knew I was in good hands. If you're into mountain biking in general, even not so experienced, and are looking for an adrenaline rush and great views & experience, riding with BikingPeruTrek absolutely has to be on your bucketlist Corentin T2022-09-27 Incroyable Incroyable journée de DH avec Americo ! Ian C2021-10-29 Fantastic MTB Downhill for Experienced Riders I spent two days with Americo and can't thank him enough for making my Peru trip. We did the Maras Moray trip on the first day and that was a great run with plenty of sections to get excited about. The scenery was incredible and everything was completely organized by Americo and the team. The second trip was unbelievable also. Started the first run at 4400 meters through some great sections followed by a hot spring soak then on to another high mountain pass starting around 4400 meters again. This run saw the five bikers on the trip get a total of six punctures between us and a few broken spokes which were all sorted out by the team. The bikes supplied were all high end Polygon duel suspension MTB's which ate up the terrain. Thanks guys ! Juan Diego G2019-12-25 Buenas bajadas Buenas bajadas con muy buenas cletas, rutas diferentes y nuevas pero el guia que nos toco no era tan rapido
