Itinerary – 4-Day Andes to Amazon Tour in Peru
Day 1: Cusco – Quillabamba – Palma Real
Your journey begins in Cusco, where you depart early in the morning and start descending from the Andes into the lush cloud forest. Along the way, you’ll enjoy spectacular views as the landscape changes dramatically from mountains to tropical jungle. After a stop for lunch in Quillabamba, you continue to Palma Real, the gateway to the Amazon rainforest. Here, you’ll experience your first night surrounded by nature in a comfortable jungle lodge.
Day 2: Palma Real – Huilcapampa
After breakfast, your true jungle expedition begins. Traveling deeper into the rainforest, you’ll combine short vehicle rides with guided hikes through dense vegetation. This is your first real contact with wildlife, where you may spot monkeys and colorful birds such as toucans, parrots, and the famous cock-of-the-rock. By the end of the day, you’ll arrive in Huilcapampa, where you’ll spend the night immersed in the sounds of the jungle.
Day 3: Megantoni Jungle Exploration

After this exciting river journey, you’ll arrive at the remote native community of Matoriato.
Day 5: Matoriato Native Community Experience
This day is dedicated to cultural immersion. You’ll spend time with local families in Matoriato, learning about their traditions, daily life, and connection to the jungle. In the evening, you’ll take part in a guided night walk, a unique opportunity to discover the hidden world of nocturnal insects and rainforest creatures.
Day 6: Matoriato – Mantalo – Quillabamba
Leaving the deep jungle behind, you’ll travel downstream by boat for several hours until reaching Mantalo. After lunch, you’ll continue by road to Quillabamba. This day marks the transition from remote wilderness back toward more accessible areas, while still surrounded by lush landscapes.
Day 7: Quillabamba – Santa Teresa – Aguas Calientes
Your journey continues back toward the Andes as you travel through Santa Teresa and the Hydroelectric route. From there, you’ll reach Aguas Calientes, the town located at the base of Machu Picchu. You’ll spend the night here, resting and preparing for the highlight of your adventure.
Day 8: Machu Picchu – Return to Cusco
On your final day, you’ll visit the iconic Machu Picchu. With your guide, you’ll explore the ancient Inca citadel, learn about its fascinating history, and enjoy free time for photos. After this unforgettable experience, you’ll return by train to Ollantaytambo and then continue to Cusco, completing an epic journey from the Amazon jungle to the Andes.

We did a one day downhill mountain bike tour with Americo. We have traveled and ridden in many locals and this was definitely top notch. We found that the ride descriptions are accurate in explaining the difficulty level. The bikes we rented through Americo are really nice and well maintained. The scenery is stunning and the trails are interesting, varied and in good shape. The guides and driver are very professional and helpful. Excellent day of riding!

The most fun you can have with your clothes on!
This was one of the highlights of my trip. My guide, Americo took me on the perfect trails for my skill set (advanced). The equipment was really good and he saved me a bunch of money by proving a down hill bike vs what it would have cost me to bring my own. He had the suspension set perfect for the trail conditions. Provided me with go pro footage to remember my trip by. After the ride was over took me to an incredibly good brewery that also had some delicious food. I would highly recommend Biking Peru Trek to anyone looking for a memorable adventure. I will be back for more.
