🗺️ Tour Itinerary – Day by Day Breakdown

Your adventure begins the moment you land in Cusco. At the airport, a driver will greet you and transfer you to your hotel. The morning is free so you can rest and acclimate to the altitude (3,400 meters above sea level).

In the afternoon, around 1:30 pm, the Cusco City Tour starts. You’ll visit:

  • Koricancha (Temple of the Sun): Once the most important Inca temple, covered in gold before the Spanish conquest.
  • Sacsayhuamán: A massive fortress with cyclopean walls overlooking Cusco. The size and precision of its stonework are breathtaking.
  • Q’enqo: A ceremonial site with carved rock altars and tunnels used for rituals.
  • Tambomachay: Known as the “Bath of the Inca,” this spring-fed site symbolizes water worship.
  • Puca Pucara: A red fortress that served as a military checkpoint.

By sunset, return to Cusco for dinner at a local restaurant or a relaxing evening in your hotel.

After breakfast, you’ll head out to the Sacred Valley, a lush region that was vital for Inca agriculture and still thrives with life today.

The day includes:

  • Awanacancha: A cultural stop where you can see llamas, alpacas, and vicuñas up close while learning about traditional Andean weaving.
  • Pisac Archaeological Site: Famous for its agricultural terraces and impressive Inca cemetery carved into the cliffs. Afterward, explore the Pisac artisan market, perfect for souvenirs.
  • Buffet lunch in Urubamba, the heart of the Sacred Valley, where you’ll enjoy Peruvian specialties made with local produce.
  • Ollantaytambo: A living Inca town with narrow stone streets and a fortress that guarded the valley against invasions. Climb the terraces for panoramic views.

In the late afternoon, board the scenic train to Aguas Calientes, a picturesque town nestled at the base of Machu Picchu.

Wake up early for the highlight of your trip: Machu Picchu. After breakfast, take the shuttle bus that zigzags up the mountain to the entrance of the citadel.

With your guide, explore the main attractions:

  • The Guardhouse Viewpoint: Perfect for the iconic postcard photo.
  • Temple of the Sun: Used for astronomical observations.
  • The Main Plaza and Royal Quarters: Where Inca nobility lived and held ceremonies.
  • The Intihuatana Stone: An enigmatic carved rock believed to be a solar clock.
  • Agricultural Terraces: Ingenious farming systems that sustained the city.

After the guided tour, you’ll have time to explore on your own or hike short trails like the Inca Bridge. In the afternoon, return by train to Ollantaytambo and transfer back to Cusco.

This day starts very early, around 4:00 am. After a 3-hour drive through high Andean valleys, you’ll begin the trek to Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca).

The hike takes about 2 hours and leads to an altitude of 5,200 meters (17,060 ft). The reward is extraordinary: vibrant mineral colors streak the mountainside in reds, yellows, turquoise, and lavender, creating a surreal landscape. Along the way, you may see herds of alpacas, local shepherds, and the imposing Ausangate glacier in the distance.

Although the trek can be challenging due to the altitude, horses are available for rent, making it accessible for most travelers.

After breakfast, your driver will transfer you to Cusco airport according to your flight schedule. Your 5-day Andean adventure comes to an end—leaving you with unforgettable memories of Inca wonders and Andean landscapes.
